
The East Greenwich Fire Prevention Bureau handles the following services:
- Fire Investigation: Determines the origin and cause of all fires. This includes car fires that involve high value or new vehicles, or where the fire began inside the passenger compartment; and all other fires where requested by the incident commander.
- Plan Review: Site and plan review on all new and renovated buildings to determine compliance with the R.I. Fire Safety Codes.
- New Construction Inspection: Rough and final Certificate of Occupancy inspections for buildings that have had plan reviews.
- License Inspections: Town and State mandated inspections of all buildings, which have licenses and facilities used for place of assembly, education, victualing and liquor license, plus gym's and laundry facilities.
- Residential Inspections: Smoke and Carbon Monoxide inspections for all residential homes before sale.
- Fire Protection System Inspections: Kitchen extinguishing and sprinkler systems.
- Permit Inspections: For tents, fireworks, and other special events.
- Public Education: For adults, children, and seniors.
- Statistical Reports: Quality control for the fire reporting system to ensure accurate data for yearly statistical reports. Click to view run statistics.
- Professional Relationship: Works closely with town building officials, state fire investigators, fire safety code board of appeal and review members, contractors, business owners and the public.

BURNING PERMITS
To obtain a permit to burn you can come to Station #1 located at 284 Main Street any day of the week. During regular business hours you can speak with the administrative assistant. All other times contact one of the department officers.
